Shorties

Cleveland Heights has its turn-of-the-century “country lanes,” but also has its very short streets–cut-throughs not found in the newer suburban areas of highways, winding drives and cul-de-sacs. Most of our short streets are by-ways connecting two to four streets.

Our “shorties” have rather impressive names: there is Cecil Place which, charmingly in two segments, runs between Grandview Avenue and South Overlook Road. Minor Park connects Berkeley and Hyde Park Avenues, Bayreuth Road connects North Taylor and Brunswick Roads, Alpine connects Woodridge and Tremont Roads, and Colonial Road connects Euclid Heights Boulevard with Oak Road. Birch Tree Path was obviously created to link its nineteenth-century house, now a Cleveland Heights Landmark, with Glen Allen Drive.

Our short streets provide convenient cut-throughs, transporting us from one street environment to another, and serving to provide us with some significant visual contrasts for a moment or two. They are particularly great for walkers!
