Rocky Roads

Cleveland Heights has several streets which honor the area’s 19th-century quarries, including Quarry Road itself. But nearby Bluestone Road, named for the stone the early settlers discovered and then mined in that locale, was also the name given the one-time lively hamlet – some houses remain on that street today. Nearby Yellowstone Road’s name is probably also from the rocks, still seen there decorating homes hovering above the street; but the name of our great National Park – which most Bluestone Road, c., 1930 (more mud than stone!) would assume the developer had in mind – creates a refreshing image of natural splendor.

Rock Court, the name of our “rural” street, has obvious origins, but why would someone choose Renrock, Atherstone, Keystone and Stoneleigh Roads were likely names selected more for their dignified British sound than because of any specific link with topography.
